NEW YORK (Scrap Monster) : The data published by the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council (CBFC) indicates that the imports of brass mill products of the country during January fell in comparison with the same month the previous year. The exports registered a growth during the period.
Imports of brass mill products in January totaled 35.8 million lb compared with 40 million lb in January 2012.
The leading exporters of brass mill products to US during the month were South Korea and Germany each shipping 6.1 million lb. Canada was the next biggest exporter with 3.6 million lb of exports, followed by China with 3.5 million lb exports to US.
Category wise, imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 8.9 million lb, while exports of these products totaled just over 8 million lb in January, it said.
Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 13.3 million lb, while the export of these products totaled 5.4 million lb. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 10.8 million lb, while exports totaled 4.9 million lb. Imports of copper alloy wire totaled 2.8 million lb, while exports totaled just over 2 million lb.
Exports totaled 20.4 million lb in January. The exports during January 2012 were only 18.8 million lb.
The US exports were mainly targeted at Canada. The net exports to Canada touched 6.9 million lb, followed by Mexico (6.2 million lb), South Korea (1.5 million lb), China (707,474 lb) and Saudi Arabia (628,527 lb).
