US Brass Mill Products Exports and Imports Surged Higher in May

ALBANY (Scrap Monster): The latest trade statistics released by the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council (CBFC) suggests that the exports of brass mill products by the US surged higher during the month of May this year when matched with the previous year. The imports of brass mill products too were higher during the month.

Imports-May ‘17

The US imports of brass mill products totaled 46.372 million lb during May this year. When compared with the imports during the same month a year before, the May ’17 imports were up by 8.5%. The imports had totaled only 42.740 million lb in May last year.

The leading supplier of brass mill products to the US during the month was Germany. The imports from Germany totaled 11.269 million lb. The second largest supplier was Mexico with 4.810 million lb. The other primary sources of import of brass mill products by the country were Vietnam (4.470 million lb), Canada (4.024 million lb) and South Korea (3.978 million lb).

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 15.936 million lb in May. All pipe and tube products imports totaled 16.865 million lb. The imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 9.799 million lb. The US imported 3.773 million lb of copper alloy wire during the month.

Exports-May ‘17

The US exported 25.653 million lb of brass mill products during the month, rising considerably by 26% over the previous year. The exports during the same month last year had totaled only 20.410 million lb.

The leading export destination of brass mill products from the US during the month was Mexico. The exports to Mexico totaled 9.258 million lb. The other key export destinations were Canada (6.916 million lb), Saudi Arabia (1.983 million lb), China (1.590 million lb) and South Korea (911,452 lb).

Exports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 9.881 million lb in May this year. All pipe and tube products exports totaled 5.385 million lb. Exports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 8.147 million lb. Copper alloy wire exports totaled 2.240 million lb.

Year-to-Date Imports and Exports

The cumulative imports of brass mill products by the US during the initial five -month period of the year totaled 201.596 million lb, up by 6% over the corresponding period last year. The country’s imports had totaled 190.352 million lb during the corresponding five-month period in 2016. The cumulative exports surged higher by over 11% from 99.929 million lb in Jan-May ’16 to 111.098 million lb during the first five months of 2017.
