US Aluminum shipments rise 8.2% in September y/y, inventories slip: MSCI

WASHINGTON (Scrap Monster) : The latest released statistics by the Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI)  indicate that the aluminum shipments from the US and Canada  were up  during September this year in comparison with the same month a year ago.

According to data released Wednesday by MSCI, the total aluminum shipments from various US service centers in September this year totaled 121,700 mt, which is 8.2% higher than the shipments recorded during same month the previous year.

The total aluminum shipments from the US during the first nine months of the year 2013 amounted to 1.122 million mt. The shipments during this period are lower by 3.4% in comparison with the shipments during the same period in 2012.

The current aluminum inventories of US are at 362,700 mt at the end of September, lower by 3.7% in comparison with the aluminum inventory levels in September 2012.

As per MSCI data, the total aluminum products shipment by Canada through various service centers amounted to 12,400 mt during the month of September. This is 1.1% higher when compared to the shipments during September 2012.

The total aluminum shipments from Canada during the first nine months of the year 2013 amounted to 117,400 mt. The shipments during this period are lower by 3.4% in comparison with the shipments during the same period in 2012.

The current aluminum inventories of Canada are at 35,000 mt at the end of September , lower by 11.1% in comparison with the aluminum inventory levels in September 2012.
