Two Rivers' hi-tech Demopolis sawmill nears completion

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The state-of-the-art sawmill of Two Rivers Lumber Co. in Demopolis, Alabama is set to start production during early-September this year. The construction of the mill had commenced during the beginning of 2017. The company hopes to achieve full production as early as possible.

According to recent press release issued by the company, nearly 95% of the machinery installation has been already completed. BID Group, who is entrusted with the design and building of the facility noted that the installation works at the sawmill are in full swing and are ahead of the timeline set earlier. The remaining installation and other construction works are expected to be completed over the next two-month period. The mill is expected to start its run on September 1st, 2017. Efforts are on to bring the mill into full production at the earliest, the press release noted.

Meantime, Alistair Cook, BID Group President & CEO stated that the contract with Two Rivers Lumber Co. has helped in establishing a strong relationship with Demopolis community. He also thanked Two Rivers for providing them the opportunity to supply and install the Demopolis sawmill that features state-of-the-art technologies. The mill will be equipped with latest technologies including a Comact optimized log bucking system, a Comact saw line and a fully-automated mill outfeed. The planer mill will be equipped with Miller high speed planer and the latest Comact GradExpertTM 2.0. The mill will also make use of continuous kiln technology for drying lumber.

The sawmill is expected to contribute significantly to the economic growth of Marengo County. The establishment of the mill is in line with the City’s plan to foster development of rural regions. Further, it is expected to justify the efforts to bring in more business to the region. Incidentally, Two Rivers had received tax abatements and economic incentives to construct the Demopolis saw mill. Around 55 new jobs will be created initially. When the mill turns into full production, additional 40 more jobs will be created. The creation of huge number of well-paid jobs is expected to boost prosperity in the regional community.

The mill, located south to the meeting point of the Black Warrior and Tombigbee rivers, mill will take in large Southern Yellow pine trees and produce different sizes of dimensional lumber. The lumber, thus produced, will be marketed to all key markets across the US. The mill has a capacity to produce 200 million board feet of lumber per year. The operations at the mill are expected to create large number of indirect jobs in forestry industry subsectors.

Two Rivers Lumber Co. LLC, based in 970, Industrial Park, Demopolis, aims to develop the mill as one among the top five employers in West Alabama.
