Twin Rivers Paper Co. granted access to more wood from Crown lands

CALGARY (Scrap Monster): The New Brunswick administration has granted Twin Rivers Paper Co., access to additional wood from Crown lands, as part of the 10-year forestry plan announced early-March.

The mill will get access to 200,000 more cubic metres of softwood. This will make the mill’s total Crown lands access to 500,000 cubic metrres. The additional wood will create nearly 40 jobs. The company has also decided to add one more shift at its Plaster Rock mill. It will also make fresh investments of nearly $2.5 million to install new kiln at the facility.

The government has announced that the pending two agreements will be finalized at the earliest. The detailed maps earmarking the area from where the extra wood can be cut will be released once all the agreements are signed.

Twin Rivers Paper Co., has also decided to make annual contribution of nearly $3 million to a pension plan for the next 15 years. This will benefit both hourly and salary workers of the company. It will also increase the pensions of retired employees of former Fraser Paper Mill, which was taken over by Twin Rivers in 2009.

The forestry plan proposed by the New Brunswick government intends to provide forestry companies with additional 660,000 cubic metres of softwood per year.
