Turkish steel exports dropped marginally in April

ANKARA (Scrap Monster): The latest data released by Turkish Steel Exporters Union (CIB) suggests that the country’s steel exports dropped marginally during the month of April this year. The Turkish steel exports totaled 1.6 million tons in April, slightly lower by 0.7% when compared with the exports during April last year. The export of steel generated total revenue of $987 million during the month, falling sharply by 17.8% year-on-year.

The cumulative steel exports by Turkey during the first four months of the year totaled 5.8 million tons, down 6.9% when matched with exports during the corresponding four-month period from January to April last year. The revenue generated from steel exports too dropped significantly by 19.8% to $3.7 billion during this period.

Meantime, the latest available data for the month of March this year indicates that the country’s steel imports surged higher by 37.3% over the previous year. The data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers Association (TCUD) shows that steel imports by the country totaled 1.58 million tons during March this year.

The imports of billets surged significantly by 252.2% over the previous year to 260,000 tons during March. The bloom imports by the country were up 7.9% year-on-year at 16,000 tons. The steel slab imports too have climbed higher by 10.6% during March this year to 178,000 tons. Also, imports of flat steel products by Turkey totaled 775,000 tons, 32.8% higher when compared with March 2014.
