Turkey's Iron ore imports totaled nearly 600 kt in Nov '14

ANKARA (Scrap Monster): According to latest data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the country’s iron ore imports during the month of November last year totaled 599,770 tonnes. The average import price stood at $107.6 per tonne during the month. The value of imports totaled $64.512 million.

Brazil was the largest exporter of iron ore to Turkey. The Turkish imports of Brazilian iron ore totaled 509,133 tonnes, accounting for bulk of the imports by the country. The value of imports from Brazil amounted to $53.764 million. In second place was Russia with 52,921 tonnes, followed by Ukraine with 37,716 tonnes.

The cumulative iron ore imports by Turkey during the initial eleven-month period in 2014 totaled 7.429 million tonnes. The value of imports during this period totaled $944.715 million. The country’s iron ore imports averaged at $127.2 per tonne during January to November last year.

The leading iron ore supplier to Turkey during Jan-Nov ’14 was Brazil. The imports from Brazil totaled 3.159 million tonnes. The total value generated by these imports amounted to $342.861 million. In second place was Russia with 1.374 million tonnes, followed by Sweden with 1.319 million tonnes. The other primary iron ore suppliers to Turkey during the eleven-month period were Ukraine (983,408 tonnes), Finland (344,664 tonnes) and Canada (62,004 tonnes).

The country’s total iron ore import for the whole year 2014 is estimated to exceed 8.1 million tonnes.
