ANKARA (Scrap Monster) : According to data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the steel scrap import volumes by the country saw a significant decline of over 18% year-on-year.

As per data, Turkey’s scrap imports during June this year totaled 1.7 million tonne, declining by 13.8% when compared to the imports during same month the previous year. The total scrap imports during the initial six months of the year amounted to 9.3 million tonne, lower by 18.25% in comparison with the scrap imports by the country during corresponding period the previous year.

The total value of scrap imports by the country during June amounted to $652.5 million. The scrap import value during the month saw an increase of 24.2% over the previous month, but witnessed a sharp decline of 25.8% over the previous year. The average price of Turkey’s steel scrap during June this year was $383 per tonne, falling by $8 month-on-month and $61 year-on-year. The six-month scrap import value totaled $3.6 billion, down 27% year-over-year.

Turkey’s steel scrap imports from the EU totaled 4.7 million tonne during the first half of the year. The imports have declined by almost 19% year-over-year. Turkey imported 2.9 million tonne of scrap from North America during the period, declining by 12.6% year-on-year. The scrap imports from the CIS totaled 1.1 million tonne, decreasing year-on-year by 29.5%.
