SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  Taiwanese tech giant ASUS has announced ambitious goal to achieve 20% recycling of its global electronic waste by 2025. The company aims to optimize the recyclability of its products and expand its recycling capability by partnering with more certified recyclers across the world. The announcement came on the heels of World Environment Day celebrations.

The company press release stated that the e-waste recycling initiatives undertaken during recent times would place it among world’s leading green high-tech leaders. The recycling of electronic waste not only improves sustainability, but also helps to create value addition through recycled materials.

The company had organized a series of recycling events based on this year’s theme ‘Connecting People to Nature’, as part of World Environment Day celebrations. ASUS had set up a number of e-waste collection centers in partnership with schools and recycling organizations to boost e-waste recycling efforts among local communities. The company had also set a short-term goal to collect over 100,000 kilograms of electronic waste before the end of July.

Various recycling events are being organized by the company across the globe. For instance, the company is currently running “Refurbished Computer and Digital Training Program” in partnership with ASUS Royal Clubs and Sunfar 3C. The reusable products collected through 13 ASUS Royal Club and 68 Sunfar 3C participating locations will be donated to charity group. The products that cannot be reused will be safely recycled at authorized recycling centers. The program which is scheduled to end by end-2017 has already made significant impact, sources said.

Also, ASUS is currently hosting an e-waste recycling event in Wisconsin K-12 schools in partnership with Dynamic Recycling with the aim of improving environmental awareness among children, teachers and parents. The program will run through July 31st, 2017. In addition, ASUS had recently hosted a recycling competition at ten local elementary schools in Emmen, Coevorden and Hoogeveen townships, Netherlands. The competition organized in partnership with Weee Nederland B.V. had lasted for four weeks and was aimed at improving e-waste recycling awareness in schools. Recently, the company had initiated a new recycling initiative in India, by opening 40 recycling collection centers across the country, offering wide range of services including free on-site pickup.

As per data, ASUS has established e-waste recycling programs running in 14 countries, in order to protect the environment from damages caused by improper disposal of e-waste. These 14 countries currently account for 70% of its global business. The company’s recycling programs adhere to international standards and are approved by local authorities and comply with ASUS corporate sustainability standards. In 2016, the company had recycled nearly 11 million kilograms of electronic waste, accounting for 12.2% of total products sold world-wide.
