Stainless steel production rises 10.6% during H1 2014: ISSF

LOS ANGELES (Scrap Monster): According to preliminary data released by the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), the stainless steel melt shop production increased by 10.6% during the first half of 2014. The stainless steel production during H1 of the year totaled 20.938 million metric tons. All regions across the world excluding Central and Eastern Europe reported increase in production levels.

In Asian region, China witnessed surge of 16.7% in production when compared with those during the corresponding half last year. The total stainless steel production by China amounted to 10.687 million metric tons during H1 2014 as against 9.159 million metric tons during the same six-month period in 2013.

The Asian region excluding China registered a growth of 3.0% in production. The stainless steel production during January to June this year totaled 4.450 million metric tons when compared with the output of 4.319 million metric tons during H1 2013.

The American crude steel output during the initial half of the year totaled 1.386 million metric tons, 16.0% higher when compared with the H1 of previous year. The combined production by Central and Eastern European region totaled 143 metric tons, down 5.4% over the production during the corresponding six-month period in 2013.

The combined production by Western Europe and Africa increased by 4.0% year-on-year to 4.273 million metric tons during H1 2014.
