South America's crude steel production declined in August

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by South American countries edged lower marginally during the month of August this year. The total monthly output declined by 1.9% to 3.782 Million tonnes.

The total crude steel production by Argentina during August was 474,000 tonnes, marginally up by 1.3% than the August 2014 production of 467,000 tonnes. Brazil produced 2.799 Million tonnes of crude steel, dropping by 5.4% when compared to 2.958 Million tonnes production achieved during August last year. The Chilean August crude steel production increased slightly by 1.5% from 94,000 tonnes in August ‘14 to 95,000 tonnes in August this year. The total crude steel production by Colombia rose nearly 16.8% to 110,000 tonnes in August this year.

Ecuador’s crude steel increased marginally by 2.9% on year-on-year basis. The crude steel output by Ecuador was 60,000 tonnes in August this year, higher when matched with 58,000 tonnes during August last year.  Paraguay’s crude steel output surged by over 16.3% during the month.

The crude steel output by Peru increased by 34.1% year-on-year. The crude steel output of Uruguay too rose 13.2% from 9,000 tonnes in August last year to 10,000 tonnes in August ‘15. Venezuelan production was up sharply by 33.5% year-on-year from 97,000 tonnes to 130,000 tonnes.
