South American crude steel output plunged 6.8% in March

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by South American countries dropped sharply during the month of March this year. The total monthly output plunged 6.8% to 3.690 Million tonnes.

The total crude steel production by Argentina during March was 430,000 tonnes, down 8.90% than the March 2014 production of 472,000 tonnes. Brazil produced 2.768 Million tonnes of crude steel, falling by 7.4% when compared to 2.991 Million tonnes production achieved during March last year. The Chilean March crude steel production saw sharp dip of 8.0% from 109,000 tonnes in March ‘14 to 100,000 tonnes in March this year. The total crude steel production by Colombia too plunged 19.7% to 95,000 tonnes in March this year.

Ecuador’s crude steel production climbed higher marginally on year-on-year basis. The crude steel output by Ecuador was 55,000 tonnes in March this year, 1.2% higher than 54,000 tonnes during March last year.  Paraguay’s crude steel output tumbled by over 70% during the month.

The crude steel output by Peru dropped slightly by 1.7% year-on-year. The crude steel output of Uruguay nosedived by 85.6% from 7,000 tonnes in March last year to 1,000 tonnes in Mar ‘15. Venezuelan production soared higher by 33.4% year-on-year from 109,000 tonnes to 145,000 tonnes.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first three months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
