South American crude steel output dropped marginally in April

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by South American countries dropped slightly during the month of April this year. The total monthly output declined by 0.1% to 3.786 Million tonnes.

The total crude steel production by Argentina during April was 384,000 tonnes, down 21.0% than the April 2014 production of 486,000 tonnes. Brazil produced 2.912 Million tonnes of crude steel, rising by 4.4% when compared to 2.789 Million tonnes production achieved during April last year. The Chilean April crude steel production saw sharp dip of 17.3% from 97,000 tonnes in April ‘14 to 80,000 tonnes in April this year. The total crude steel production by Colombia too plunged 19.3% to 90,000 tonnes in April this year.

Ecuador’s crude steel declined by 6.8% on year-on-year basis. The crude steel output by Ecuador was 50,000 tonnes in April this year, lower when matched with 54,000 tonnes during April last year.  Paraguay’s crude steel output surged by over 41.3% during the month.

The crude steel output by Peru increased by 5.9% year-on-year. The crude steel output of Uruguay tumbled by 31.2% from 7,000 tonnes in April last year to 5,000 tonnes in Apr ‘15. Venezuelan production increased by 8.1% year-on-year from 153,000 tonnes to 165,000 tonnes.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first four months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
