South American crude steel output declined 5.6% in June '14

According to the most recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by South American countries declined during the month of June this year

South American crude steel output declined 5.6% in June '14

SACRAMENTO (Scrap Monster): According to the most recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by South American countries declined during the month of June this year. The production by the region totaled 3,594 thousand tonnes, 5.57% down when compared with the total production of 3,806 thousand tonnes during the previous month.

The total crude steel production by Argentina during June ’14 was 477,000 tonnes, marginally lower when compared with May ‘14 production of 483,000 tonnes. Brazil produced 2.687 Million tonnes of crude steel, down 6.64% when compared with 2.878 Million tonnes production achieved a month before. The Chilean June crude steel production declined from 79,000 tonnes in May ‘14 to 75,000 tonnes in June ‘14. The total crude steel production by Colombia too dropped by 4.35% to 110,000 tonnes in June this year.

Ecuador recorded decline in output month-on-month. The crude steel output by Ecuador was 45,000 tonnes in June this year, 4.26% lower from 47,000 tonnes during May.  Paraguay’s crude steel output soared higher by 25% during the month.

The crude steel output by Peru dropped by 3.3% month-on-month from 93,000 tonnes to 90,000 tonnes. The crude steel output of Uruguay surged higher by 25% to 10,000 tonnes. Venezuelan production slipped 5% month-on-month from 100,000 tonnes to 95,000 tonnes.

The cumulative crude steel output for the first six months in 2014 of various countries( in thousand tonnes) in the region are as follows:- Argentina (2,695), Brazil (16,697), Chile (544), Colombia (610), Ecuador (273), Paraguay (20), Peru (542), Uruguay (38) and Venezuela (737).
