Sims Recycling Solutions’ overseas facility earns prestigious R2 certification

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The press release issued yesterday by Sims Recycling Solutions states that the company’s Singapore facility has earned the prestigious Responsible Recycling (R2:2013) certification from Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI). The certification will be effective for a period of three years.

Steve Skurnac, president of Sims Recycling Solutions noted that the certification of the facility to the R2 standard is a clear evidence of its ongoing commitment to promote secure and responsible IT asset disposition. The certification assumes significance especially at a time when the company is on its heels to expand its service across the world, not only as a provider of IT asset management but also as a full-time contributor to worldwide electronics recycling services. The R2 certification of the offshore facility will help raise the bar for other global IT asset disposition companies, Skurnac added.

Earlier during April this year, the Asset Disposal and Information Security Alliance (ADISA) had awarded accreditation at distinction level for maintaining highest ITAD standards at sites across Europe and Asia-Pacific region. The company had noted that its facilities in the Czech Republic, Germany, India, Netherlands, Poland, Singapore and Sweden had been certified as accredited locations. The audits conducted at the above sites had revealed that Sims has succeeded in standardizing its approach to ITAD, creating a high-quality, consistent and secure delivery mechanism across all locations.

The recent certifications are considered to be the end-result of a series of service enhancement measures and product innovations over the recent past. Further, the certifications are expected to cement the company’s position as the ‘best-in-class’ provider of full service IT and electronics recycling services across the globe.

The R2:2013 is the latest version of R2 and the leading certification in the electronics recycling industry. It provides a common set of processes, safety measures, and documentation for ITAD companies. R2 certified vendors repair, disassemble and recycle used electronic equipment using processes that emphasize reuse, transparency, environmental health and worker safety.

It must be noted that the global IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) market was valued at US$9.89 billion in 2015. As per study, the market is likely to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.1% during the period from 2016 to 2024 to touch US$18.2 billion. The ever-rising migration to cloud computing by corporate sector firms is the key driver of the projected tremendous market growth. The market is also driven by the rising demand for used computing hardware. The strict government regulations governing the disposition of IT assets is another key factor, it notes. The report also predicts huge market growth in Asia Pacific region, thereby making it the leading regional market by 2024.
