Scrap exports from Russia reports monthly uptick of 14.1%

The recent data published by the Russian Federal State Statistical Services indicates that the scrap exports of the country surged during the month of March in comparison with the previous month

MOSCOW (Scrap Monster) : The recent data published by the Russian Federal State Statistical Services indicates that the scrap exports of the country surged during the month of March in comparison with the previous month.

According to data, Russia’s total exports of scrap during the month of March were 248,000 tons. The exports during March are 14.1% higher than the exports during the previous month. However, upon comparison with the total exports during the same month a year ago, the exports witnessed a drop by 5.6%.

Turkey was the largest destination of Russian scrap exports during March. Turkey accounted for d more than 50% of the Russian exports, importing a total of 134,000 tons. The scrap exports from Russia to Turkey have gone up by 8.1% when compared to March 2012. The second largest export destination was Korea. The exports to Korea totaled 54,000 tons, rising by 21.1% year-on-year. Exports to Spain totaled 21,000 tons increasing convincingly by 38.3% from same month a year ago.

The total scrap exports from Russia during the Q1 2013 totaled 665,000 tons. The quarterly scrap exports have dropped significantly by 30% year-on-year.

The scrap exports to Turkey during the first quarter of the year fell to 348,000, 21.2% less than the exports during Q1 2012. Exports to Korea and Spain also witnessed a dip of 41.4% and 17.2% respectively year-on-year. The total scrap exports to Korea and Spain were 128,000 tons and 60,000 tons respectively.
