Scrap exports by Hong Kong dropped slightly during Sep '14

BEIJING (Scrap Monster):  According to latest trade statistics released by Hong Kong, the scrap exports by the country declined marginally during the month of September this year. The country’s scrap exports during Sep ’14 totaled 96,000 tons. The exports have dropped by 3.7% when compared with the country’s scrap exports during same month the previous year.

The largest destination of exported scrap from Hong Kong was China. The scrap imports by China totaled 27,000 tons during the month, accounting for nearly one-third of the total scrap exports out of Hong Kong. However, the Chinese scrap imports from Hong Kong were down 28.8% when compared with those during the previous year.

The second largest importer of scrap from Hong Kong was Vietnam. The imports by the country totaled 26,000 tons during the month of September, higher by 16.4% year-on-year. In third place was Taiwan with total imports of 20,000 tons. The country’s scrap imports from Hong Kong surged by 21.3% over the year, according to data.

The cumulative scrap exports by Hong Kong during the nine-month period from January to September this year totaled 924,000 tons. The exports during this period jumped higher by 10% when matched with the exports during the corresponding nine-month period in 2013.

The largest importer of scrap from Hong Kong during this period was Vietnam. The scrap imports by Vietnam jumped higher by 55.3% to 277,000 tons. In second place was China with 242,000 tons, followed by Taiwan with 158,000 tons.
