Russian Scrap Exports Declined Notably in Jan-Jul ‘17

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The official statistics released by the Russian Federal Customs Service indicates that the country’s scrap exports dropped marginally by 1.6% during July this year. Meantime, the combined exports during the first seven months of the year were down significantly by 18.8% when matched with the corresponding period in 2016.

As per Federal statistics, Russia exported 504,000 tons of scrap during July 2017. This is marginally lower by 1.6% over the previous year. The Russian scrap exports had totaled around 512,000 tons during the same month in 2016.

Turkey and Belarus were the key destinations of Russian exports during the month. The exports to Turkey totaled 242,000 tons in July, accounting for over 48% of the total monthly Russian exports. In second place was Belarus with 105,000 tons. The imports constituted 21% share of Russian exports during July this year.

The cumulative scrap exports by Russia during the first seven months of 2017 totaled 2.651 million tons, falling significantly by 18.8% upon comparison with the year before. The country had exported 3.265 million tons of scrap during Jan-July ’16. The monthly exports averaged at 379,000 tons. The exports to Turkey totaled 1.117 million tons, representing 42% share of Russian exports during the period. The Turkish imports of Russian scrap surged higher by nearly 28% year-on-year. Belarus stood second among importing countries. The exports to Belarus increased by 23.7% over the previous year to 708,000 tons during Jan-July ’17.

Going by the current rate, Russia’s estimated annual scrap export volume now stands at 4.54 million tons.

Exports-June ‘17

According to Russian trade statistics, the scrap exports totaled 542,000 tons in June this year, which is significantly up by 12.2% when compared with the exports a year before. Month-on-month, the exports surged higher by nearly 38%.

Exports-May ‘17

The Russian scrap exports totaled 393,759 metric tons in May 2017. The exports recorded decline of over 9% when matched with the previous month. The largest export destination of Russian scrap in May this year was Turkey. The second largest export destination of Russian scrap was Belarus with 120,356 tons. South Korea imported 32,536 tons of scrap from Russia in May. The other major markets of Russian scrap were Spain (30,206 tons), Greece (5,268 tons), France (4,300 tons) and the Netherlands (2,527 tons).
