Russian pig iron exports to the US surged higher in Feb ‘14

MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): The pig iron exports by Russia climbed higher during the month of February this year. According to statistics, exports to the US surged significantly during the month.

Russia’s pig iron exports totaled 263,000 tons during February. This is 142% higher when compared with the exports during same month the previous year. The exports to the US totaled 200,000 tons during the month, accounting for more than 75% of the total exports by Russia. The exports to the US during the month surged higher by 2800% over the previous year. The pig iron exports to Germany totaled 19,000 tons, falling 8% when compared with the exports during the same month a year ago.

During the initial two-month period of the year, the Russian pig iron exports totaled 524,000 tons. The cumulative exports during the Jan-Feb period went higher by 97% over the exports during the corresponding two-month period in 2013. During this period, the exports to the US totaled 277,000 tons, accounting for more than half of the total exports by Russia.
