The Royal Canadian Mint has issued a new series of coin in memory of Nanaboozhoo, the traditional aboriginal legend.

OTTAVA (Scrap Monster): The Royal Canadian Mint has issued a new series of coin in memory of Nanaboozhoo, the traditional aboriginal legend. The coins are designed by Mr. Cyril Assiniboine a famous self-taught Ojibwa artist that is available in platinum, gold and silver.

According to the Royal Canadian website, the allegories and figures on the released coin have aimed to invoke a historical sense about the aboriginal culture in younger generation’s mind. While depicting Nanaboozhoo on the reverse of coin, the mint tries to show the lessons on how to live in harmony with the natural world.    

The Legend of Nanaboozhoo releases include: 2014 Nanaboozhoo and the Thunderbird’s Nest 1 oz Fine Silver Coin, 2014 Portrait of Nanaboozhoo 1/10 oz Pure Platinum Coin, 2014 Portrait of Nanaboozhoo Pure Gold Coin, 2014 Nanaboozhoo and the Thunderbird 1 oz Fine Silver Coin and 2014 Legend of Nanaboozhoo 1 oz Fine Silver Coin.

2014 Portrait of Nanaboozhoo 99.95% pure Platinum Coin depicts a left-facing portrait of Nanaboozhoo is featured on the reverse with the inscriptions of CANADA, 2014 and 5 DOLLARS. The coin contains 1/10 ounce of the precious metal, the first single platinum coin of the size from Royal Canadian Mint. Mintage of the strike is limited to 3,000. The price of the coin is shown as CAD $299.95, or US $275.89.

2014 Portrait of Nanaboozhoo 99.99% pure Gold Coin bears the same portrait of the platinum coin and it is composed of 3.14 grams of gold. A mintage of 3,000 is ready to sell and the coin’s cost is listed as CAD $279.95, or US $257.50.

2014 Nanaboozhoo and the Thunderbird 1 oz Fine Silver Coin has Gold plating that adds to the detail on the reverse. The figure of Nanaboozhoo is shown in the foreground with an approaching Thunderbird in the background. Each coin contains one ounce of 99.99% pure silver with the aforementioned added detail of selective gold plating. A mintage of 8,500 has been available for the cost of CAD $114.95, or US $105.73. 

2014 Legend of Nanaboozhoo 1 oz Fine Silver Coin depicts the spectacular figure; Nanaboozhoo is wearing a traditional Western Ojibwa dress as a large Thunderbird soars behind. These 99.99% pure silver coins have a mintage limit of 8,500 with pricing of CAD $99.95, or US $91.93.

2014 Nanaboozhoo and the Thunderbird’s Nest Silver Coin illustrates Nanaboozhoo climbs a cliff to get to the Thunderbird’s nest.  He plucks the feathers from the bird and stands all set to fight. Each coin is composed of one ounce of 99.99% pure silver and its mintage has limited to 8,500 and its cost is listed as CAD $89.95, or US $82.74.
