Republic Services CEO Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award by CR Magazine

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Phoenix-based Republic Services Inc. has announced that its President and CEO, Don Slager has been selected as the winner of Corporate Responsibility Magazine’s 2017 Responsible CEO of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented at COMMIT!Forum, a gathering of corporate responsibility and sustainability practitioners held Oct 11-12 at MGM National Harbour, Washington D.C.

The winner was selected from a list of 11 finalists by an eminent panel of independent judges comprising of previous winners of Responsible CEO Award. The Responsible CEO of the Year award is presented to CEOs from public and private companies, NGOs and governments, in recognition of the personal and professional risk undertaken to deliver on their corporate responsibility promises. The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals for their vision and spirit that have led to commendable achievement in corporate responsibility over the course of their career. This is the 10^th Responsible CEO Award and 7^th Lifetime Achievement Award.

According to Dave Armon, publisher of CR Magazine, Don Slager was applauded by the panel for leading by example throughout his career. He has made immense contribution to drive innovation and create a culture of sustainability not only for its employees and customers, but also for the communities that Republic Services operates, he noted. Slager has maintained perfect balance between his commitment to investors and shareholders, while delivering strong business results and delivering sustainability responsibilities, added Armon.

Meantime Slager stated that he is honored by the prestigious recognition. He added that the award belongs to the entire Republic Services family. He noted that it is a demanding task to collect, haul and manage nation’s waste by offering innovative yet simple solutions to nearly 14 million customers across the country. The award is in recognition of the continuous innovations carried out at its recycling centers and the environment-friendly operating techniques practiced by them he noted.

Slager became the President of Republic Services in 2008 and the company's CEO in 2011. Slager was named the “Top CEO” in the 2012 Institutional Investor All-American Executive Team rankings in the Business, Education, and Professional Services sector. Under his leadership, the company was named to the Forbes "America's Best Employer List" for 2017. In addition, Slager was also rated among “100 Highest Rated CEOs” for 2017 by Glassdoor.
