Recent upgrades empower NL sawmill to double production

HAMPDEN (Scrap Monster): The lumber production at Burton’s Cove Logging and Lumber Ltd. in Hampden, Newfoundland & Labrador has touched new highs during late-May and early-June this year. The recent upgrades at the plant and fine-tuning activities undertaken by the management have enabled the plant to almost double its production.

The company achieved a new milestone by producing more than 100,000 board feet of lumber in one day in late-May. The production further increased to 112,000 board feet during early-June. According to company management, the production had remained range bound between 40,000 and 50,000 board feet per day since its inception in 1998. On certain occasions, it had spiked up to 60,000 to 70,000 board feet.

The annual production which used to remain in the range 6 to 7 million board feet had crossed 12 million last year. The company hopes the total annual production to cross 15 million board feet this year. The production art Burton’s Cove Logging and Lumber Ltd was boosted by addition of U-shaped saw and a kiln to dry lumber, reports said.

Burton’s Cove Logging and Lumber Ltd is an integrated sawmill and woods harvesting company that harvests and saws logs to produce lumber to be sold to the wholesale market. Burton’s Cove Logging also harvests pulpwood and produces pulp chips and hog fuel to be sent to Corner Brook Pulp and Paper in Corner Brook, NL.
