ALBANY (Scrap Monster): Electronic Recyclers International- the nation’s leading electronic waste recycler has stated that the current forecast of growing global e-waste is just a ‘tip of the iceberg’. He warned that electronic waste is all set to grow exponentially in the coming years. He called for setting up of effective recycling facilities to solve the rising issue.

Electronic waste is the fastest growing sector in global waste stream, noted John Shegerian, Chairman and CEO, ERI. The growing electronic waste stream highlights the need of timely up gradation and expansion of existing electronics recycling facilities. The mounting e-waste menace can be tackled only by promoting safe and environment friendly disposal and recycling of used electronics, he added.

The US still exports large quantities of electronic waste to developing nations that are not fully equipped to handle them in a safe and responsible manner. A good majority of these equipment reach the hands of primitive recyclers who often employ unethical means to dismantle components, which ultimately cause damage to environment and mankind.

The recently released report by Allied Market Research had predicted that e-waste management market is likely to post a CAGR of 23.5% during the period from 2014 to 2020. The report titled "Global E-Waste Management Market - Size, Industry Analysis, Trends, Opportunities, Growth and Forecast, 2013 – 2020" had stated that the e-waste management market is expected to grow multifold and touch $49.4 billion by 2020.

Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the world’s largest privately held recycler of electronic waste, is e-Stewards and R2 certified to de-manufacture and recycle every type of electronic waste in an environmentally friendly manner. ERI processes more than 275 million pounds of electronic waste annually at eight locations serving every zip code in the United States.
