Qatar Steel signs sale and recycling contract with SAP

DOHA (Scrap Monster):  Qatar Steel has signed a sale and recycling contract with Slag Aggregate Producer (SAP), located in Doha. As per the contract  signed by Ali bin Hassan al-Murakhi, director and general manager of Qatar Steel, and Sheikh Khaled bin Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani, managing director of SAP, Qatar Steel will sell to SAP 1mn tonnes of slag as steel wastes. SAP will process, recover the scrap and return it to steel-maker to re-use it in their industry. The ensuing aggregate will be utilised in the construction and infrastructure works. SAP will be processing about 100,000 tonnes of slag a month.

Al-Murakhi said the recycling and processing of slag has many environmental advantages such as minimising the solid wastes of slag produced in steel industry, “and it has also economic advantages such as reducing the cost of safe disposal, in addition to minimising the space occupied by slag.”

Sheikh Khaled said the agreement would be very useful for the environment in general, through processing and recycling the industrial solid wastes including the slag.
