PRI opens Indianapolis foam recycling facility

INDIANAPOLIS (Scrap Monster): Plastic Recycling Inc. (PRI) has opened a new foam recycling facility in Indianapolis, Ind. The new facility will be dedicated to recycling of post-consumer foam cups, foam take-out containers and other used polystyrene materials from curbside collection programs.

The new facility will initially employ 25 people. The estimated annual capacity of the facility is 25 million pounds per year with scope of further expansion. It is expected to go fully operational by Q1 ‘15.

According to PRI, the firm will focus on recycling post consumer EPC foam and rigid PS from material recovery facilities (MRFs). The facility has rail access, which will minimize the environmental impacts of shipping.

PRI has launched the new facility in partnership with Dart Container Corporation. The facility will employ Dart’s washing technology.

PRI currently recycles nearly 60 million pounds of foam and rigid polystyrene materials annually. The company also announced that it is looking forward to partner with other states such as New York and Chicago towards recycling their foam.
