Port of Tucson and ANCI sign recovered fiber supply deal

LOS ANGELES (Scrap Monster): The California-based America Chung Nam Inc. (ANCI) has signed an agreement with Arizona’s Port of Tucson, whereby recovered fiber collected through city’s collection programme will be shipped by rail from Tucson to California. ANCI plans to ship the materials to China where the recovered fiber will be recycled to manufacture newsprint and printing and writing paper.

According to industry sources, the deal will contribute significantly to the economic development of the region. Port officials forecast exports of up to 100 containers of recovered fiber through the program. ANCI already had long-standing relationships with North Carolina-based ReCommunity which processes the City’s recovered fiber.

ReCommunity spokesperson further clarified that it will explore similar possibilities at other locations in Arizona where it operates, by analyzing the difference in cost of shipment between rails and trucks to the West Coast. Prior to the agreement, all cargo had to be loaded on to trucks, which were driver to West Coast ports for further exports to China and other Asian countries.

America Chung Nam LLC buys, sells, and exports a range of recovered paper grades, including mixed, ONP, magazines, OCC, DLK, office paper, and other paper grades. The company also recycles plastic grades, including polyethylene terephthalate, high density polyethylene, low density polyethylene, PP, PS, ABS, commingled plastics, and other engineering plastics. It supplies paper to consumers of recovered paper in the United States and internationally. The company was founded in 1990 and is based in City of Industry, California
