Plastics Industry Association Declares 2017 Leadership Awards

TORONTO (Scrap Monster): The Canadian Plastic Industry Association (CPIA) has announced the winners of Plastics Industry Leadership Awards 2017. The award winners were honored at the CPIA Awards Dinner Tuesday, Sept 19, 2017 at Paramount Eventspace in Vaughan, Ontario. The awards in various categories recognized individuals and companies for their outstanding commitment and dedication to the success of the plastics industry.

Terry Elliott, President of Scepter Manufacturing was presented the 2017 Leader of the Year Award. The Leader of the Year Award recognizes individuals who make important contributions to their businesses, to their communities and to the Canadian plastics industry.

Jocelyn Doucet of Pyrowave and Amalia Gil of GreenMantra Technologies were the recipients of the Plastic Industry Young Leaders Award. The newly introduced award is given away in recognition of inspirational and dedicated young leaders under the age of 40 who demonstrates leadership in plastics businesses, innovations or sustainability efforts.

CPIA honored two organizations and an individual in its Sustainability Award category. DOW Chemical Company was recognized for their RETAIN Polymer Modifier Technology that allows multi-material barrier films to be recycled in a polyethylene recycling stream. GreenMantra Technologies was recognized for their unique technology that converts waste plastics with low recycling rates into high value specialty polymers and products. Also, another award winner in this category was Allen Langdon, Managing Director, Recycle BC.

The CPIA Innovator Award was presented to three individuals for their contributions in the areas of materials, products, process/technology, or marketing/communications. The winners were Robert Clare and Alexei Kazakov from NOVA Chemicals in recognition for their innovation in recyclable packaging and Perry Rizzo, president and CEO of Axiom Group Inc. for Smart Attend advanced monitoring technology.

The sole recipient of the CPIA Canplast Award was Gerry Maldoff, President of Hymopack Ltd. Also, CPIA’s Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to five individuals for their outstanding achievements and contribution of enduring legacies to the Canadian Plastics Industry and to the community: Tim Bean, former employee at Imperial Oil Limited; Denis Cloutier of Poly Expert; Roy G. Ferguson of Chantler Packages; John Pelliccione, of Gracious Living Corporation and Dwarka Paul Persaud, of Norwich Plastics.

The Canadian Plastics Industry Association is the national voice of the plastics industry in Canada, representing the interests of processors, material suppliers, equipment manufacturers and brand owners across Canada since 1943.
