EUCLID (Scrap Monster): Cincinnati-based grocery chain retailer Kruger Co. stated that its plastic bag recycling rate increased by 10% last year. Also, the recycling rate has increased by 33% since 2011. The recently released sustainability report by Kroger states that nearly 35 million pounds of plastic bags were recovered from its store outlets and distribution centers.
“Plastic bags are collected and recycled into products such as new recycled plastic bags, landscape materials and plastic composite lumber,” the company said in the sustainability report. Consumers are encouraged to recycle their used plastic bags through “Bag2Bag” collection containers located in stores, Kroger said.
