LIMA (Scrap Monster): Peru copper, lead, gold, silver output advanced in the first five months of this year while its iron ore, tin, zinc production dropped, according to country's Minister of Energy and Mines Jorge Merino.

According to ministry, country's copper production rose by 2.05% year-on-year to 498,170 metric tons in the first five months of this year. Peru's produced 106,593 metric tons of copper in May, up 8.04% year-on-year.

Peru produced about 1.24 million tons of copper last year. Peru is the world's second biggest producer of copper.

--Peru's lead production gained sharply by 13.11% year-on-year to 101,235 metric tons in January to May this year while its May output was rose by 2.7% year-on-year to 20,410 metric tons.

--Gold output for January-May 2012 was 67.6 metric tons or up 2.46% from a year earlier and its production in May was 14.3 metric tons or down by 0.69% year-on-year. Newmont Mining-owned Minera Yanacocha accounted for nearly a third of all gold output over the five months.

--Silver output for the first five months of this year advanced by 2.9% year-on-year to 1,419,721 kilo gram and its May production dropped by 1.35% year-on-year to 291,458 kilo gram.

--Country's iron ore production in January-May was 2,521,110 metric tons, down 16.02% year-on-year and its May production rose by 6.03% year-on-year to 560,251 metric tons. Shougang Hierro Peru is the only iron ore producer in the country.

--Peru tin output dropped by 4.89% year-on-year to 10,760 metric tons in the the first five months of this year and its May production was dropped slightly by 0.50% to 2,170 metric tons.

--Zinc output in January-May was 529,282 metric tons or 4.56% lower and its May output was 104,550 metric tons, down 13.78% year on year.
