Perth Mint's New Mickey Mouse Gold, Silver Coins to Allure Coin Lovers

WESTERN AUSTRALIA (Scrap Monster): The Perth Mint of Australia has announced to launch a new series of gold and silver coins in memory of Mickey Mouse, one of the popular and favorite cartoon characters in the animation world. The mint has said that the new coins; the 2014 Disney – Steamboat Willie 1/4oz Gold Proof Coin and the 2014 Disney – Steamboat Willie 1oz Silver Proof Coin are ready to release soon.

The Disney coin series bear a still of Mickey Mouse on Steamboat Willie that is taken from the movie Steamboat Willie, released in 1928. The film, Steamboat Willie was remarkable by its innovation and its way of presentation that has been cherishing through generations. Moreover, the film is the first cartoon with synchronized and the first to feature a post-produced soundtrack. The film also featured Walt Disney himself as Mickey.

 Apart from the figure of the Mickey Mouse, the reverse of the new coins includes the inscriptions of STEAMBOAT WILLIE and 1928 complete the design. The obverse of the coins depicts Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as legal tender of Niue. The inscriptions ELIZABETH II, NIUE, 2014 and their legal tender values are placed around the queen’s effigy.

Disney-Steamboat Willie Gold coin has 99.99 percent purity, 7.777g weight and its maximum mintage is 1,000. Disney-Steamboat Willie silver coin has 99.99 percent purity, 31.35g weight and its maximum mintage is 10,000.  Pricing is listed as AUS $704.55 (US $657.46) for the gold coin and AUS $102.27 (US $95.43) for the silver coin.
