Oregon-based EG Metals relocates e-scrap shredding operations to Texas

PORTLAND (Scrap Monster): Export Global Metals (EG Metals) has announced that the company has relocated the shredding activities at its Portland, Oregon facility to Texas. This follows the state Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) imposing fine on the company in January this year. According to EG Metals spokesperson, tough government regulatory measures in Oregon coupled with tight commodity market has forced the company to arrive at the decision.

The company clarified that effective August this year, e-scrap is not being shredded at the facility. The company is currently relocating the e-scrap shredder equipment to a new 90,000 square-foot facility in Carrollton, Texas. Furthermore, the Oregon facility will only accept electronic scrap and sort it out into gaylords for outward shipment. The company has also stated that all gaylords meant for shipping would be stored indoors, without causing environmental pollution.

Earlier during the year, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality had fined the company for more than $12,000 for violation of stormwater permit. The notice of penalty had cited two reasons for imposition of fine. An inspection conducted during October last year had found that the firm exposed processed scrap materials by storing it in open places such as pavements. It had also failed to conduct stormwater permit tests at the facility. The quality tests had detected excessive levels of copper, lead and zinc in stormwater from the site.

EG Metals is a full-service ferrous and non-ferrous metal and R2/RIOS Certified electronics recycler and End-Of-Life processor serving the commercial, public and industry market for the past decade, receiving and processing materials from across the United States. It has facilities in Hillsboro, Oregon and Dallas, Texas.
