Oceania crude steel production rebounds in August

CANBERRA (Scrap Monster): According to latest data published by World Steel Association, the crude steel production by Oceania region jumped higher significantly by 21.3% during the month of August ’15 year-on-year. The total output by the region rose sharply from 419,000 tonnes in August last year to 509,000 tonnes during Aug ’15.

The total crude steel production by Australia during August this year was 437,000 tonnes, considerably higher by 28.8% when compared with the production of 339,000 tonnes during same month a year ago. New Zealand produced 72,000 tonnes of crude steel, down by 10.8% when compared with the production of 80,000 tonnes achieved during August last year.

The total crude steel production by Australia during July this year was 442,000 tonnes, marginally higher by 1.3% when compared with the production of 436,000 tonnes during same month a year ago. New Zealand produced 63,000 tonnes of crude steel, considerably down by 18% when compared with the production of 77,000 tonnes achieved during July last year.

The crude steel output by Oceania region was up 6.5% during the initial eight-month period of the year. The output totaled 3.845 million tonnes, when matched with the output of 3.611 million tonnes during the corresponding eight-month period in 2014.

The following table provides country-wise cumulative crude steel output for the first eight months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
