Oceania crude steel production plunged 13.1% in August '14

CANBERRA (Scrap Monster): According to latest data published by World Steel Association, the crude steel production by Oceania region dropped sharply by 13.1% during the month of August ‘14 year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Australia during August this year was 339,000 tonnes, down 16.6% when compared with the production during same month a year ago. New Zealand produced 80,000 tonnes of crude steel, higher by 5.8% when compared with the production of 76,000 tonnes achieved during August 2013.

The total crude steel production by Australia during July was 436,000 tonnes, higher by 8.4% than the July 2013 production of 402,000 tonnes. New Zealand produced 77,000 tonnes of crude steel, marginally lower by 0.6% when compared to 78,000 tonnes production achieved during July 2013.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first eight months in 2014 in comparison with those during same period in 2013.
