Oceania crude steel output surges 21.4% in May

The crude steel production by the Oceania region surged higher during the month of May this year. The output was up by 21.4% year-on-year.

Oceania crude steel output surges 21.4% in May

CANBERRA (Scrap Monster): According to latest data published by World Steel Association, the crude steel production by Oceania region jumped significantly higher by 21.40% during the month of May ’15 year-on-year. The total output by the region surged from 437,000 tonnes in May last year to 530,000 tonnes during May ’15.

The total crude steel production by Australia during May this year was 453,000 tonnes, significantly higher by 21.8% when compared with the production of 372,000 tonnes during same month a year ago. New Zealand produced 77,000 tonnes of crude steel, higher by 19.2% when compared with the production of 65,000 tonnes achieved during May last year.

The total crude steel production by Australia during April this year was 410,000 tonnes, significantly higher by 19.8% when compared with the production of 342,000 tonnes during same month a year ago. New Zealand produced 78,000 tonnes of crude steel, higher by 10.6% when compared with the production of 71,000 tonnes achieved during April last year.

The crude steel output by Oceania region was up 5.6% during the initial five-month period of the year. The output totaled 2.348 million tonnes, when matched with the output of 2.224 million tonnes during the corresponding five-month period in 2014.

The following table provides country-wise cumulative crude steel output for the first five months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
