Nucor steel mill tour to transform CFSEI Expo ’14 into a complete steel making experience

WASHINGTON (Scrap Monster):  The annual expo and meeting hosted by the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI) will be held on May 19th -20th at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee.

The participants of the expo will be provided with a rare opportunity to tour Nucor Steel Arkansas Armorel facility. The tour would cover hot and cold side operations including electric arc furnaces, vacuum degasser, casters, hot strip mill, pickle line, reversing/temper mill and galvanizing line. The total tour is expected to last 3-3.5 hours.

The CFSEI Expo 2014 will include sessions on several topics, including ASCE 7-10 wind loads; blast design; mechanical bridging and bracing; metal buildings; cold-formed steel studs; updates to the AISI Brick Veneer Cold-Formed Steel Framing Design Guide; a preview of AISI S310-13, North American Standard for the Design of Profiled Steel Diaphragm Panels, which will be published later this year; and a look forward to the Diaphragm Design Manual that is due out in early 2015.

This year’s expo will also add a new Cold-Formed Steel Design Forum that will provide the attendees an opportunity to engage in discussion with a panel of experts who are in the trenches of cold-formed steel design.

The Expo will also announce the winners of the 2014 CFSEI Design and Distinguished Service Awards which cover four categories- design excellence, construction innovation, residential design and construction and distinguished service.
