The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) has announced a strategic tie-up with the Canadian transportation industry to utilize aluminum technology to produce light weight vehicles
OTTAWA (Scrap Monster) : The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) has announced a strategic tie-up with the Canadian transportation industry to utilize aluminum technology to produce light weight vehicles.
According to Michel Dumoulin-a top official at the NRC, the collaboration program would help develop lighter automotive parts by making use of innovative aluminum technology. The program intends to transform the country’s automotive industry in a big way, reducing the weight of cars, trucks, trailers, buses and trains. NRC claims that the new technology would result in better fuel efficiency and safety. Moreover the vehicles are guaranteed to be more environment friendly too.
The innovative $45 million program aims to reduce the overall vehicle weight by nearly 10% in the next eight years, by making use of most advanced technologies to produce aluminum parts which can assemble together in the formation of next-generation light weight vehicles. The NRC also announced a research and development initiative by providing a common platform for industry partners from the entire manufacturing community.
