Northwest Ontario sawmill reopened after five years

OTTAWA (Scrap Monster): EACOM Timber Corporation has reopened its Ear Falls, northwestern Ontario sawmill after five years of closure. The company has been putting all efforts to refurbish the mill over the past several months.

According to the management, the mill has been reconstructed to make it more efficient. The mill will start functioning with a single shift. Nearly 50 people will be employed for the shift. The company also plans to hire another 50 people by the time it starts the second shift by early next year. The company has also hired some former workers.

The sawmill had closed in December 2009 under the collapse of the housing market in the United States.

The mill will produce dimensional two-by-fours, two-by-sixes, and two-by-threes.

Established in 2008, EACOM is a global timber company with head office located in Montreal, Quebec. The company is into manufacturing, marketing and distribution of lumber and wood-based value-added products, and the management of forest resources. EACOM is one of the major producers in the Eastern Canadian Timber industry.
