North American crude steel production rises marginally in October

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by North American countries went slightly higher by 0.3% during the month of October year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Canada during October this year was 1.160 Mt, higher than the October 2013 production of 1.060 Mt by 9.4%. The US produced 7.310 Million tonnes of crude steel, marginally lower by 0.7% when compared to 7.361 Million tonnes production achieved during October 2013. The total crude steel production by Mexico rose 0.4% from 1.623 Mt in October 2013 to 1.630 Mt in October this year.

The Cuban crude steel production declined by 4.6% to 30,000 tonnes. The crude steel output by El Salvador was estimated at 10,000 tonnes in October this year, down by 12% when compared with 11,000 tonnes a year before. Guatemala produced 35,000 tonnes in October, down 5.3% from a year ago. The crude steel output by Trinidad & Tobago plunged by 36.9% in October this year to 37,000 tonnes from 58,000 tonnes during same month the previous year.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first ten months in 2014 in comparison with those during same period in 2013.
