North American Aluminum new mill orders up 20% in January

The statistics released by the Aluminum Association indicates that the new mill orders for the month of January 2014 has increased by 19.6% over the previous month

North American Aluminum new mill orders up 20% in January

WASHINGTON (Scrap Monster) :  The statistics released by the Aluminum Association indicates that the new mill orders for the month of January 2014 has increased by 19.6% over the previous month.

The year-to-date new mill orders index is down 1.2%.

New orders for plates were up in January when compared with December. The January plate orders surged 48.6% from December. There was 52.3% jump in January plate orders year-on-year.

New orders for Sheets, extruded products, foils, domestic can and export can stock were up in January when compared with the previous month.

The sheet orders during the month of January climbed higher by 15% from December 2013. But, January sheet orders fell marginally by 0.2% year-on-year.

The orders of extruded products jumped 35.1% in January when compared with the previous month. Also, extruded products orders were up by 12.4% when compared with January 2013 orders.

January orders of foil increased 8.2% compared with the previous month and were down 18% from a year earlier.

The January orders of domestic can stock were up by 23.8% from previous month. However, the orders during January were also down by 9% over the previous year.

On the other hand, the orders of export can stock fell 24.5% from the previous month. However, on year-on-year basis, the export can orders were down 13.9%.
