Naperville signs new contract to recycle disposed electronic waste

NAPERVILLE (Scrap Monster): The City of Naperville has partnered with DuPage County to sign an 18-month agreement with New Life Electronics Recycling to dispose all the discarded electronic devices brought to the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Centre.

Earlier the City had offered permanent electronics collection sites, which allowed residents to drop off their unwanted electronics completely free of cost. The funds collected from electronic manufacturers were enough to subsidize the recycling of dropped-off electronics. However, due to high cost of recycling for certain items such as CRT monitors, the funds collected had become insufficient, forcing City to pay the difference. Consequently, many permanent collection sites had to close.

According to the agreement, the City of Naperville Recycling Drop-Off Center, located at the northwest corner of the Public Works Service Center at 180 Fort Hill Drive will be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents are allowed to drop-off electronic goods including computers, monitors, televisions, printers/fax machines, cameras, cables, keyboards and mice, VCR and DVD players, video game consoles and more. They are not allowed to bring more than two CRT computer monitors or televisions per vehicle.

New Life Electronics Recycling has secured independent funding directly from electronics manufacturers, which aids them to offer drop-off frère of cost. The contract is expected to save the City, nearly $84,000 per year.

New Life Electronics Recycling is a local electronics recycling and Asset Recovery Company based out of the Chicago area servicing all communities, businesses, municipalities, and school districts nationwide.
