Multinational automaker parades augmented use of recycled material

NEW YORK (Scrap Monster) : World’s leading automaker Ford has announced in a news release that the company has hugely stepped up the usage of recycled materials in its various car models in the past six years.

Ford claims that it is the world’s first automobile manufacturer to use seat fabric made from recycled materials. The seat fabric used in the company’s Ford Fusion is made from recycled materials. Ford Fusion is the first ever vehicle to use such seat fabric. The company is believed to have a well organized collection program which collects materials enough to produce approximately 1.5 million yards of fabric per year.

According to the news release, the company which used no recycled yarns in 2007 now uses recycled yarns in nearly 66% of vehicle models. Right now, the use of recycled seat fabrics does not cover the 15 vehicle lines of the company. The company targets to have all the Ford seat fabrics to be made from recycled materials.

Ford’s use of recycled-content fabrics is growing. Since the 2009 model year, Ford says any new seat fabric used in Ford vehicles must contain at least 25 percent recycled material. The company said it is committed to usage of more sustainable materials to contribute in the making of a better world.
