More Lake communities switch to single-stream recycling

ORLANDO (Scrap Monster): Two more communities have switched to single-stream recycling system. The latest to convert to single stream recycling are the cities of Clermont and Howey-in-the-Hills. Upon switching to the new system, residents could drop off their waste-paper, plastic, metal, cardboard and glass into the same bin.

The Howey-residents have already been provided with new garbage and recycling carts by the city’s new waste hauler WCA. The new carts are being in use from Oct 1st, 2015. According to WCA authorities, trash will be collected at the curb every Monday and Thursday. All trash will be collected in the 96-gallon cart. Recycling will be collected every Wednesday in the 65-gallon container. Styrofoam, batteries, light bulbs, plastic bags and items contaminated with food waste are not allowed in recyclables.

Beginning today, Clermont will replace the current 18-gallon bins with new 65-gallon recycling carts. The recycling carts will be delivered to residents on their regular trash pickup day. Trash and recycling will be collected on the same day. According to the city, cart delivery schedule will extend up to Dec 4th.

The conversion to single-stream recycling is expected to make recycling easier for residents. This will not only save environment by encouraging people to recycle more, but also reduce the quantity of garbage sent to the landfill. The city officials of both Clermont and Howey-in-the-Hills hoped that single-stream recycling would boost participation.
