More firefighters join the battle against B.C's worst wildfire since 2006

VANCOUVER (Scrap Monster): More firefighters are arriving in B.C to fight the battle against wildfires across the province. The existing fire crew will be assisted by firefighting forces from Alberta and Ontario.

According to B.C Wildfire Management Branch, the university students who had made up a sizeable proportion of the contingent will be returning to schools. This void will be filled by firefighters from other provinces. Presently around 360 out-of-province firefighters and 75 Australian firefighters are assisting the efforts. In addition, another 86-member contingent from Ontario has already arrived in Prince George Airport.

As per estimates, B.C wildfires are about to surpass the total number of hectares burned in 2010. A total of 314,895 hectares have been burned by wildfires so far in 2014. This is very close to surpass the 337,149 hectares which were burned in 2010. Also, 162 active wildfires have been burning as on Aug 23rd, Saturday.

Sources indicate that the province of B.C is facing the worst ever wildfire since 2006, the area between the Northwest and the Prince George fire districts being hit most badly. A total of 1,269 wildfires have been reported so far in this year.
