MoF releases Japan's waste and scrap export statistics for July '16

TOKYO (Scrap Monster): The Japanese Ministry of Finance (MoF) has published the country’s waste and scrap export statistics for the month of July this year.

According to data, Japan exported 185,244 metric tons (MT) of ordinary steel scrap during July ’16. The largest importer was China with 147,042 MT. The other leading importers of ordinary steel scrap during the month were South Korea (21,598 MT), Vietnam (11,714 MT), Taiwan (3,265 MT) and Indonesia (830 MT). The price of overall exports averaged at $422.47 per MT.

The cumulative exports of ordinary steel scrap during the initial seven-month period of the year totaled 1.620 million metric tons. The export prices averaged at $340.82 per MT during this period. China was the key importer with exports from Japan totaling 949,257 metric tons. The other primary destinations of Japanese ordinary steel scrap exports were South Korea (320,963 MT), Vietnam (217,170 MT) and Taiwan (120,013 MT).

The country’s exports of waste and scrap of Stainless Steel totaled 16,532 metric tons in July ’16. The exports averaged at $762.59 per MT. South Korea accounted for over 60% of the total stainless steel scrap exports by Japan during the month. The imports by South Korea totaled 10,218 metric tons, followed by Taiwan (3,978 MT), Thailand (1,840 MT), China (292 MT) and India (135 MT). The cumulative exports during the first seven-month period of the year totaled 87,366 metric tons. The key offshore countries that constituted the exports of waste and scrap stainless steel during the seven-month period were South Korea (48,154 MT), Taiwan (27,224 MT), Thailand (7,337 MT) and China (2,053 MT).

As per statistics, Japan exported 1,141 metric tons (MT) of waste and scrap of other alloy steel during July ’16. The largest importer was China with 1,029 MT. The other leading importers during the month were Taiwan (43 MT), Hong Kong (32 MT), Thailand (20 MT) and Belgium (14 MT). The price of overall July ’16 exports averaged at $1,480.11 per MT.

The cumulative exports of waste and scrap of other alloy steel during the initial seven-month period of the year totaled 14,124 metric tons. The export prices averaged at $685.70 per MT during this period. China was the key importer with exports from Japan totaling 7,389 metric tons. The other primary destinations of export were Taiwan (3,683 MT), South Korea (2,195 MT), Hong Kong (403 MT) and Thailand (176 MT).

Japan’s exports of waste and scrap of cast iron totaled 17 metric tons in July ’16. The exports averaged at $547.57 per MT. China was the only importer during the month. The country’s exports of Turnings and Stampings totaled 73,604 metric tons during July ’16 at an average price of $228.86. South Korea accounted for major share of the total exports by Japan during the month. The imports by South Korea totaled 57,838 metric tons, followed by Taiwan (12,405 MT), India (1,548 MT) and Indonesia (1,288 MT).

Japan exported 332,066 MT of Waste & Scrap of Heavy Melting Scrap during the month of July this year. The largest importer was South Korea (185,157 MT), followed by Vietnam (120,608 MT), Taiwan (16,369 MT), China (8,833 MT) and Bangladesh (1,050 MT). The exports during the first seven months totaled 2.587 million metric tons.

The only importer of waste and scrap of tinned heavy melting scrap from Japan during July was Pakistan. The exports totaled 302 MT at an average price of $184.94 per metric ton. The year-to-date exports totaled 1,114 metric tons.
