Middle East steel output climbed 8% in September '14

ABU DHABI (Scrap Monster): According to most recent data published by the World Steel Association (World Steel), the crude steel production by the Middle East region increased by 8.4% during the month of September year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Iran during September was 1.429 Million tonnes, increasing by 4.8% in comparison with the September 2013 production of 1.364 Million tonnes. Qatar produced 269,000 tonnes of crude steel, higher by 44.6% when compared to 186,000 tonnes production achieved during September 2013. Meantime, Saudi Arabia’s crude steel output surged over the year to 486,000 tonnes during September this year. The total crude steel production by the UAE during September was 151,000 tonnes, sharply down by 39.1% in comparison with the September 2013 production of 247,000 tonnes.

Iran’s total crude steel output had totaled 1.332 Million tonnes in August ’14. When compared to this, Sep ’14 output is considerably higher. Qatar’s production remained unchanged from the previous month. Saudi Arabian output dropped slightly month-on-month during September ‘14. UAE’s September ’14 output rose significantly when compared with 104,000 tonnes during August.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first nine months in 2014 in comparison with those during same period in 2013.
