Middle East crude steel output soared 13% in Jan '15

ABU DHABI (Scrap Monster): According to most recent data published by the World Steel Association (World Steel), the crude steel production by the Middle East region increased by 13.1% during the month of Jan ‘15 year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Iran during January was 1.366 Million tonnes, increasing sharply by 19.7% in comparison with the January 2014 production of 1.147 Million tonnes. Qatar produced 176,000 tonnes of crude steel, down 14.6% when compared to 206,000 tonnes production achieved during January 2014. Meantime, Saudi Arabia’s crude steel output increased by 1.3% over the year to 550,000 tonnes during January this year when compared with 543,000 tonnes during the same month a year ago. The total crude steel production by the UAE during January was 224,000 tonnes, up significantly by 43.0% in comparison with the January 2014 production of 157,000 tonnes.

Iran’s crude steel production had totaled 1.362 Million tonnes in Dec ‘14, increasing by 0.9% in comparison with the December 2013 production of 1.350 Million tonnes. Qatar had produced 270,000 tonnes of crude steel, higher by 66.7% when compared to 162,000 tonnes production achieved during December 2013. Meantime, Saudi Arabia’s crude steel output had surged over the year to 547,000 tonnes during December last year. The total crude steel production by the UAE during December 2014 was 214,000 tonnes, down by 11.0% in comparison with the December 2013 production of 240,000 tonnes.
