Middle East crude steel output plunged during April

ABU DHABI (Scrap Monster): According to most recent data published by the World Steel Association (World Steel), the crude steel production by the Middle East region fell sharply by 7.70% during the month of April year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Iran during April was 1.275 Million tonnes, declining by 12.4% in comparison with the April 2014 production of 1.456 Million tonnes. Qatar produced 218,000 tonnes of crude steel, considerably lower by 14.2% when compared to 254,000 tonnes production achieved during April 2014. Meantime, Saudi Arabia’s crude steel output surged over the year to 528,000 tonnes during April this year. The total crude steel production by the UAE during April was 251,000 tonnes, up 2.20% in comparison with the April 2014 production of 246,000 tonnes.

The cumulative crude steel output by the Middle East region during the initial four months of current year totaled 9.175 Million tonnes, 1.5% higher when compared with the output of 9.038 Million tonnes during the corresponding four-month period in 2014.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first four months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
