Middle East crude steel output dropped 7.3% in June '14

ABU DHABI (Scrap Monster): According to most recent data published by the World Steel Association (World Steel), the crude steel production by the Middle East region declined sharply by 7.3% during the month of June year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Iran during June ‘14 was 1.375 Million tonnes, down 3.3% in comparison with the May ‘14 production of 1.422 Million tonnes. Qatar produced 256,000 tonnes of crude steel in June this year, marginally higher by 0.79% when compared to 254,000 tonnes production achieved during the month before.

Meantime, Saudi Arabia’s crude steel output dropped considerably over the previous month. The production totaled 490,000 tonnes during June this year in comparison to 545,000 tonnes during May. The total crude steel production by the UAE during May was 186,000 tonnes, plunging over 30% when compared with the May ‘14 production of 268,000 tonnes.

The cumulative crude steel output during the initial six months in 2014 of various countries (in thousand tonnes) in the region are as follows:- Iran (7,982), Qatar (1,447), Saudi Arabia (3,111) and United Arab Emirates (1,294).
