Malaysia imported 1.199 million tons of scraps in the first seven months of this year, down by 1.8% year on year, as per latest data released by officials.
NEW YORK (Scrap Monster): Malaysia imported 1.199 million tons of scraps in the first seven months of this year, down by 1.8% year on year, as per latest data released by officials.
In the given period of time, the US was the largest scrap exporter with 453,000 tons, down by 0.9%; South Africa was the second largest one with 216,000 tons, decreasing by 14.5%; Singapore was the third largest one with 181,000 tons, rising by 20.9%, all compared to that in the same period of the previous year.
In July alone, Malaysia’s scrap imports totaled 247,000 tons, rising by 16.6% year on year and increasing by 14.3% from a month ago, hitting the highest level of this year.
Among them, 79,000 tons were from the US, slumping by 39.6%; 64,000 tons were from South Africa, jumping by 92.3%, both compared to that in July, 2011.
