Louisville partners with Coca-Cola and Kroger to boost recycling efforts

ASHLAND (Scrap Monster): Louisville- the largest city in the Commonwealth of Kentucky has announced its partnership with Coca-Cola and Kroger to boost recycling rates.

The Metro Government has partnered with Coca-Cola and Kroger by joining the Coca-Cola Recycle & Win program, designed to promote curbside recycling and boost recycling rates. According to Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, the partnership with the recycling initiative will help the city move closer to its goal of 90% diversion rate from landfills by 2042. The partnership with Coca-Cola Recycle & Win program will help to increase awareness about recycling benefits and promote recycling practices.

“Any increase in recycling rates saves tax dollars in the long run by extending the life of landfills,” said Keith Hackett, Metro Public Works Assistant Director for Solid Waste Management. “We know that other communities have achieved increased recycling with the Coca-Cola Recycle & Win program.”

The program offers tips on recycling. As part of the program, all single-family households in Metro Louisville will be sent a direct mail educational packet during next week. The educational packet conations an official “Give It Back” sticker. The stickers highlight the type of materials that can be put in the recycling container.

Residents are required to place the “Give It Back” sticker on any one of their recycling containers to make them eligible to win $50 worth Kroger gift card. Additional stickers and packets will be available at Kroger stores. An official Recycle Patrol will begin visiting the neighborhoods during the month of October to identify the households that do responsible recycling. A total of 270 gift cards totaling more than $13,000 will be awarded as part of the six-month long campaign.
